The number of young people with sexually transmitted infections is growing in Gauteng.
Genital blisters, ulcers and warts are the most common infections among young people aged between 25 and 29.
Disclosing these details, provincial Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu has encouraged young people to get screened for sexually transmitted infections in order to get treatment.
She says close to twenty thousand young people have tested positive for some sexually transmitted infection in the province this year.
“But of importance the number of young women who are affected by STIs is more than men which is even more alarming.”
“It’s important for all of us to take interest in our bodies and any change or sign of abnormality should really be taken seriously at a very early stage before they get to be too serious,” She says.
