KWAZULU-NATAL - MEC WARNS WOMEN AGAINST ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Social Development‚ Weziwe Thusi‚ on Monday warned women against tolerating and staying in abusive relationships.

This comes following the arrest of a 46-year-old man in connection with the murder of his girlfriend whose remains were found burning in a forest near his home.
The man reported his girlfriend missing last month.

Thusi said‚ “Abusive relationships often end tragically. It is also a textbook example of how abuse cases end. It is important for women in such relationships to understand that abuse is a cancer that must be dealt with as soon as it rears its ugly heard.

"I know that women in these situations often feel helpless‚ but I want to assure them that help is available. All they have to do is speak up.

"I would like to commend the police in this case for their quick action and also the security guards who made the gruesome discovery and took action.

“I am deeply saddened to hear that the deceased was constantly beaten up before she was murdered. Abuse is a societal problem that we must all confront and fight.

“As a department‚ we will follow this case to its conclusion because we want to see all abusers landing and staying behind bars.

“We also want to ensure that all those affected receive psycho-social support so that they are ready to move on with their lives‚" she said.
