Police say the body of Zanele Shirinda was found in a shallow grave.
A widespread search for the child, led by various police units, led to the discovery near her village.
No arrests have been made.
Family spokesperson Kenneth Masuluke says they cannot understand why this has happened.
“We are so troubled by what we have seen because we never imagined that we might find a body.”
