CAPE TOWN - FRANZISKA BLöCHLIGER MURDER AND RAPE CASE POSTPONED!

The case against four men accused of raping and murdering 16-year-old Franziska Blöchliger has been postponed to April 5 for bail application.

The four accused appeared briefly at the Wynberg Magistrate’s court facing charges of rape, murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

After the court proceedings, the accused were taken to Pollsmoor prison until their next appearance.

Angry supporters in court screamed when the four accused were taken back to holding cells saying they do not want them back in their community.

On their first appearance, accused number one told the magistrate that he wanted to represent himself, then later changed his mind about representing himself and opted for legal aid.

Meanwhile the family’s spokesperson Thomas Knemeyer said they heard that a mother of one of the accused, gave him up.

Franziska Blochlinger was found dead earlier this month, her body was found next to a fynbos at the Kirstenhof forest with signs of strangulation.

Blochliger was reported missing by her mother after she did not return home from a jog.

Kirstenhof Crime Watch vice-chairperson Carolynne Franklin said Blochliger and her family usually take afternoon jogs in the forest but this time Franziska had taken a different direction from her mother and sister and they had planned to meet later.

On Tuesday night during a vigil at her parent’s house, the parents of Blochlinger promised a reward of R50 000 to a person who brings information about their daughter’s death to the police.

The parents were interviewed by the Eye Witness News on Tuesday night and appealed to the nation.

“We are devastated by the loss of our daughter, we cannot begin to grasp how somebody could have done this to her. She was beautiful, inside and out. We are devastated as a family and we do not know how we are going to move forward from a loss of this beautiful child”, Mrs Blochlinger said.

“The phone was still on when it was monitored, the police told me it was switched off at 21:00. I cannot understand how can someone must have killed a child like that. We are offering a big reward for the arrest and conviction of the person who did this to our daughter. The reward will be coming from me personally and i am talking about R50 000 reward” Mr Blochlinger said.
