WESTERN CAPE - 26 YEAR OLD WOMAN RAPED BY DOCTOR AT NYANGA CLINIC

A 26-year-old woman claimed that she was raped by her doctor at a clinic in Nyanga, Cape Town.

The 46-year old doctor was arrested on Monday.

Spokesperson FC Van Wyk said the woman informed the clinic’s management that she had been raped in the doctor’s consultation room.

Speaking to the Daily Voice, a family member said that the woman visited the clinic after she complained about back pains.

She told the doctor what was wrong and he claimed that it might be “discharge from a vaginal infection”.

“He told her to take off her tights and to lie down before he inserted his fingers into her for an examination. After taking out his fingers, he told her there was definitely some discharge and that he would need to remove it,” the family member explained.

The woman claimed the doctor started rubbing her breast and told her to imagine that she is having sex.

“My sister says she got groggy and the next thing she knew this man was on top of her, raping her”.

She went on to say, “Something needs to be done about this, how are we to trust that the doctors in our clinics are not criminals because it’s never the same doctor, they come and go”

Mark van Heever, a spokesperson for the Department of Health said that the suspect was a temporary doctor hired by an agency.

“The department has since suspended all ties with the agency, pending the outcome of the investigation”.

The suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
