NORTH WEST - MAN GETS 20 YEAR JAIL SENTENCE AFTER THREATENING WOMAN WITH KNIFE AND RAPING HER

Yesterday, 21 September 2016, the Mogwase Regional court sentenced a 34-year-old Clement Molemisi, to 20 years imprisonment for rape of a 30-year-old woman.

Molemisi’s sentencing came after his arrest by the police in Mogwase on 12 May 2014.  On 01 April 2014, a victim was walking from a party accompanied by her boyfriend when two suspects approached them.  One of the suspects assaulted her boyfriend, forcing him to run away.  The girlfriend was assaulted when she tried to run away and she collapsed. The accused took her to the bushes where he threatened her with a knife and raped her. The victim managed to report the matter to the police who traced and arrested the suspect.  It was later established that the accused was previously convicted for three counts of rape and served eight years imprisonment.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane welcomed the sentence. She said the sentence will send a message to rapists out there that no stone will be left unturned to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.
