The court, which convened during the beginning of March 2016, heard that Martin raped a 19-year-old school girl on 29 October 2012. According to the police investigation, which was done by the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Brits, the victim was walking to school when Martin approached her.

He grabbed her from behind and forcefully took her to a bush nearby, threatened her with a knife, tightened her hands with a rope and then repeatedly raped her. After the ordeal, the accused left her naked and helpless in the bushes. Martin also stole two cell phones and R30.00 which belonged to the victim.

The 19-year-old managed to crawl to the main road for help. Good Samaritans saw her and arranged for medical treatment.
