The girl was found hanging from a tree after she was allegedly raped in Waterloo, Verulam, on Saturday morning.
She was taken from her home at around 05:30 on Saturday morning, after her grandmother had apparently left to visit someone in the area, Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) told News24 at the time.
The suspect had cut up a blanket and allegedly tried to hang the child.
She was found alive after her grandmother launched a search party for her.
The man allegedly ran into the bush when he saw the grandmother approaching.
Rusa said the girl knew the alleged rapist.
